Zilzie MCMXI Cabernet Sauvignon

Tasting Notes

It’s 100 years since a butcher from Dunolly Scotland staked his young family’s future on a patch of scrub on a Murray River bend at Karadoc in North West Victoria. Through hard work, perseverance and on occasion the instinct to back themselves and take a risk; the Forbes family have nurtured the Zilzie property into one of the largest family-owned vineyard and wineries in Australia.

Deep inky brick red.

Dark berry fruit with varietal characters of tobacco leaf and blackcurrant.

A rich, full palate with notes of cigar box and fruit cake. The integrated tannins and excellent persistence.

Food Match

Osso Bucco, lamb roast and soft cheeses

Winemaker Notes

Selected Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon fruit was fermented in small fermenters. Following fermentation on skins for seven to ten days they were gently pressed after which the wine was matured in oak before blending and bottling. A judicious amount of Wrattonbully Merlot was blended in to add juiciness and enhance palate.
