Our property spans 3,200 acres across the ancient flood plains of the mighty Murray River, the place my family has called home for almost 100 years.
In more recent times the environmental pressures have become increasingly apparent with southern parts of Australia experiencing a decade-long drought, highlighting the need to embrace more sustainable practices.
Apart from the obvious environmental and economic needs to act we are ultimately driven by sustainability of family. With the fifth generation of Forbes’ now growing up on the land my brother Steven and I are committed to leaving the property in a healthy and sustainable state for our kids.
Given Zilzie’s location, water conservation has been a constant priority and continued efforts from the entire Zilzie team have seen a reduction in water usage since 2005 of 35% per litre of wine produced (down to 2.2 litres of water/ litre of wine produced in 2009).
Zilzie’s commitment to water conservation and sustainability has evolved into a total Environmental Management Strategy leading to an extensive 18 month audit and certification process with the Carbon Reduction Institute. As a result, we are proud to deliver our first carbon neutral offering: Bulloak.
